Four sites every online writer should know

What follows is a list of four sites every Web writer should visit at least once:

  1. quill Poynter Institute’s mission is to train journalists, students, educators and others in online and multimedia writing and editing. While you’re there, check out Roy Peter Clark’s nifty list of 50 writing tools.
  2. Purdue’s Online Writing Lab, or OWL,  houses a wide variety of free writing resources and instructional material. Purdue also maintains an OWL blog.
  3. Useit.com is Web content and usability guru, Jakob Nielsen’s, site. His free “Alertbox” newsletters, which are archived on his site, are packed with 15 years’ worth of tips on how to write for the Web and more.
  4. Guide to Grammar & Writing is the place to go if you need a refresher on the fundamentals of writing—you know, the ones your profs covered the day you weren’t paying attention.
